Why subscribe?

Every two weeks, (on the 1st and 15th of each month) you will receive a newsletter in your inbox about a walk across Japan. Currently, I have two walks I am doing: the Tokaido, Japan’s historical eastern sea road, and a walk from coast to coast across Hyogo prefecture along the Japan Standard Time line. Join me as I walk across Japan, describing what I encounter and finding a “deeper Japan” beyond the cliches and headlines that make it to western newspapers and YouTube vloggers. You will learn snippets of Japanese history, economics and society as we make our way through the Japanese cities, towns and countryside.

Who am I?

I have lived in Japan for fifteen years, teaching English and a few side hustles. I enjoy walking, it’s the best way to experience Japan. I love finding out about the history of the areas I pass through on my walks. I’m also interested in economics and society.

I've lived in Japan for 15 years and walked all over the place. I thought it was time to put some of the things I've walked past and seen on (digital) paper.
