Another version out last week by Craig Mod "Things Become Other Things". Guessing you have crossed paths with Craig over the years, so will be interesting to hear your response to what sounds like a very personal journey. Cover could be better perhaps?

I haven't actually read any of Craig Mod's stuff yet, although I've heard of him. I will give this book a try!

As usual, I loved all the funny asides.

Wakayama is one of those places I'd like to know better. I only passed through it in 2019 on my way to Shikoku.

How is it living in Tanabe? Do you miss the big city?

This walk is from about 16 years ago. I lived in Tanabe a long time ago when I first came to Japan. I think I didn't do the walk in the correct order, but started in Wakayama, then did the bit from Kyoto to Wakayama later.

Thanks for the olfactory journey. Enjoyed discovering Kozanji Shrine and ancient burial mound. Interesting that Wikipedia tells me that during the Jomon period, sea levels were 5-6 metres higher than today and ambient temperatures were 2 degrees higher. Don't mention this to any climate change deniers!

Interesting. Is it a busy route ? I did not look up , but probably there are maps on the net, since it is a “famous “ Kumano Kodo…

This section is not very busy, but from my next post we go past Takijiri Oji and on to Hongu, this is one of the busiest sections of the Kumano Kodo. There are maps on the internet from Takijiri Oji onwards in English. The route from Hongu to Nachi waterfall and shrine is also very popular and will have maps on the internet too.
