I grew up in California with the Sierra Nevada mountains as my back yard to the east. I used to stare up at them and wondered what was on the other side. I wanted it to be a mystery, something special like a Temple.

I wrote about it in an essay when I was in the fifth grade. My teacher who had no imagination wrote on my paper there is nothing on the other side except more land. That sort of broke my heart. Because we live for the surprises and mysteries to have been in our life. They are exciting moments we remember forever.

What a terrible teacher! I used to do the same wondering what was on the other side of the (much smaller than Sierra Nevada mountains) Pennines from Cheshire in England.
